History of El Centro ABEM
In January of 2003 we were invited by Larry and
Bev Smith to prayerfully consider catching the
Center.

camp/outreach/training center for the people,
churches and pastors of Nicaragua.

We caught the vision, and we still have it!

While we were there, the first El Centro ABEM
building was constructed.
 It was an outhouse.
Larry and Bev Smith
From 2003 to 2005  we began  As
ABWE Center.

During this time a
paved entrance
and guard building
were
completed.
900 meters of high
voltage underground wire was
run
to feed the camp with electricity.
Transformers and an Electrical
Panel Building
were put into place.

A large
swimming pool was built
and
palm trees planted around it.

A
duplex cabin which could sleep
32 people was built.  It included nice
bathroom and shower facilities on
each side.

It was also at this time that
Steve
Robinson, an engineer, along
with his family moved to
Nicaragua
to work with Larry in the
development of Centro ABEM.  As of
2010 Steve continues to lead the
building projects from pre-planning
through the end of construction.
to go to Costa Rica where
we left the United States
learning the Spanish
language.  During this
year of
2006  Larry and
Steve continued the
development of Centro
ABEM completing a
seminary building as
well as a
welcome office
that included a paved
parking lot.  The seminary
building came with special
features like an air
conditioned conference
room, storage rooms and
a library.

Other additions were
sidewalks, picnic
shelters
at the pool and
regulation sized
baseball, softball, and
soccer fields.
to medical reasons and moved
Bruce Edgar and his family moved
to Nicaragua and joined Steve
Robinson where he
(Bruce) took
the position of Director at
Centro ABEM.

We (The Woughter Family)
completed language school and
moved to Nicaragua where
Richard
joined with Steve and Bruce as
a co-administrator
of the ABWE
Center.

As these events were taking place,
the development continued.

During 2007 a
large
kitchen/dining hall
was completed
including bathrooms and storage
closets.  Commerical size
appliances and lots of counter
space make it extra special!

A
shower house with bathrooms
and changing areas was completed
next to the pool.

A small
duplex "family" cabin was
completed which can accomodate
12 people (6 on each side).
